Contrast.A QR code scanner reads the difference between dark modules and a light background. Low-contrast combinations (grey on white, dark blue on black) cause read failures even on a perfect print. Aim for a contrast ratio of at least 3:1; higher is better. Qrop checks this automatically before generating and rejects combinations that won't scan reliably.
Quiet zone.Every QR code needs a clear margin of at least four modules around all four sides. Cutting into this border, whether in the design tool or at the printer, confuses the scanner's pattern-finder and raises the error rate significantly. Leave the quiet zone intact.
Error correction.QR codes encode redundant data so they can be read even when partially obscured or damaged. The four levels (L, M, Q, H) trade off data density for resilience. If you're adding a logo over the centre of the code, Qrop automatically upgrades to level H (30% damage tolerance) so the logo doesn't make the code unreadable.
Size.For print, 2 cm × 2 cm is a practical floor for a phone held at arm's length. Digital displays need at least 200 px square for reliable scanning. Billboards and signage can go much larger; QR codes scale cleanly to any resolution.
File format.Use SVG for anything printed large, banners, posters, vehicle signage, since a vector file stays perfectly sharp no matter how far it's scaled up, with none of the pixelation a raster image would show at that size. Use PNG for email signatures, web pages, and social posts, where a fixed-size raster image is simpler to embed and every platform renders it consistently. PDF suits print workflows that expect a print-ready document rather than a bare image. One trade-off worth knowing: a logo can't be composited into an SVG output, so choose PNG or PDF whenever a logo is part of the design.
